Halifax is a city that embraces higher education. You will find no fewer than six universities in the city.
They include Dalhousie University (referred to as “Dal” by the locals), Saint Mary’s University (That’s Smoo, it rhymes with Goo), Mount St. Vincent University, the arts and design school of NSCAD, historic King’s College and the French-language Uniersité Sainte-Anne.
Add three Nova Scotia Community College campuses and Halifax is certainly a town to learn in!

The downtown has something for everyone. If you want to dance, you can grove to the latest EDM until the sun comes up. If you want something a little lower key, there are plenty of pubs to share a drink with old friends and new in.
Looking for live music? You’re in luck. Halifax has one of the best music scenes in Canada. When you move to Halifax, be prepared to get out of the house and social!
A city born from the sea
When you move to Halifax you will learn that it is a city that is deeply connected to the water. For generations, people came to the city from afar by boat. Sometimes they were coming from trade and sometimes they came to start a new life, but whatever the commonality was they arrived by the sea.
