Preparing to move to London, Ontario!

MoveBuddy is here to help with its guide to moving to London, Ontario

The dream of many people Is to find a place that offers the charms of a small town but with all the advantages of a big city.

That’s a hard combination to find. Hard, but not impossible.

When you move to London, Ontario, you will discover just that. London offers you first-class entertainment, sports, and commerce while also being on the doorstep of nature and offering affordability that you just can’t get in larger centres.

To help those moving to London, Ontario, MoveBuddy is happy to offer this guide of helpful things to know before relocating to London.

Innovation and healthcare

Home to Western University, London is a place where smart people gather to do incredible things.

Western has one of the most respected business schools in the country as well as one of the biggest and best medical schools. When you move to London, Ontario, you will be able to take advantage of that innovation and access to quality healthcare.

In general, London is a city that comes alive each September as the next class of students shows up. Additionally, the city takes advantage of the fact that so many of those students end up staying and making a life in London.

The hub of Southwestern Ontario

London is the biggest city in and the focal point of Southwestern Ontario. Surrounded by rich agricultural land and just a short trip to both Lake Huron and Lake Erie, London is an important commercial hub.

It is also perfectly placed for someone who is looking to do business in Detroit or the Greater Toronto Area. There is regular rail service to and from those cities, as well as a regional airport.

As well, Highway 401 offers easy access to both.

An affordable and safe place to live…

The dream of living in a perfect suburban town with big lawns and friendly neighbours seems to be increasingly beyond the means of many people.

However, when you move to London, Ontario, that’s not the case.

London is that place. Your choice to move to Southwestern Ontario will allow you to obtain the suburban lifestyle that you desire.

…that still has lots to do!

London may have many small-town advantages, but that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have plenty of shopping and recreation opportunities.

The Grand Theatre offers top dramatic and musical programming year-round. If you are looking for something outside of the mainstream, the presence of Western University cultivates an underground music, theatre and arts scene that is there to be discovered.

On the sporting front, the Canadian Hockey League’s London Knights are the biggest game in town. The Knights are perennial contenders for the Memorial Cup and their games pack the 9,200-seat Budweiser Gardens.

The Gardens also often play host to big concerts and events, making London a place where you can get out and play!

High culture close by

When you move to London, you are less than an hour's drive away from one of the biggest and most respected Shakespeare festivals in the world.

Stratford, Ontario, has been the home of the Stratford Festival since 1953. Some of the world’s most famous actors have starred in the festival including Christopher Walken, Jessica Tandy, William Shatner, Lorne Green and many more. Just this past season, Paul Gross stared as King Lear.

In addition to Shakespeare productions, the Stratford Festival also puts on comedy, drama and musical plays – all in a delightful atmosphere surrounded by other theatre lovers.

When you move to London, Ontario, Stratford will be just a short day trip away!
